    Hi there,

I know the VSE as an internationally recognized top university for business. This does not guarantee, however, that the DBA degree is recognized officially or allows for the German Dr.-title.

The German platform anabin.de typically is a good first step to see the status of the respective institution. I cannot find the VSE there - instead they have a "Wirtschaftshochschule Prag" with a H+ status. I still wait for their answer if this is the VSE.

Then the next step is to check whether the VSE grants the DBA degree after an official doctoral procedure with thesis and oral defense.

Finally, and there is no way around, you have to send a request to the ministery of culture in your respespective Federal State in Germany. It may take long till they answer but only then you can be safe.

    Best wishes,
    Thomas

Hi there, I have found the VSE now at anabin under its original czech name: Vysoka skola ekonomicka v Praze. It has the status H+. This looks promising and I am optimistic that your DBA degree would be accepted as a German doctor, provided that the VSE grants the degree (and nt soem kind of a cooperation partner or sub-contractor). As always, I cannot guarantee however and I strongly recommend to contact your federal state ministery of culture and education.

      Best wishes,
      Thomas

        Dear Thomas,

Thank you for checking this for me. I checked with VSE and they will confer a DBA degree. Does this suffice? By any chance can you tell me how to approach the ministry of culture in Hessen? I am finding it difficult as everything is in Germany. Thanks a ton :)

        Regards,

          Hi there,

I can only speak about people with a German passport who want to have the Dr. title in that passport. For this, a DBA Degree alone is not sufficient. They need their DBA degree to be recognized as doctoral degree (Bologna stage 3) by German authorities.

German authorities cannot decide what is a serious doctoral or not - so they trust in the recognition of the degree-granting institution in the respective country. If the institution is officially recognized as university there, German institutions accept it too and also the degree.

To check whether an institution is officially recognized by German authorities, you can have a look at www.anabin.de (cf. above).

To check whether German federale states will accept a degree as doctoral degree, you have to contact the respective ministry of education/culture in the federal state.

So far for the information that should help you. The rest is on your side.

          Best wishes,
          Thomas

    Hello Mr. Graf,

I am looking to do a DBA from VSE (Prague University). Will this degree be recognized in Germany? Also, will be able to use the Dr. title?

Secondly, the program at the university is relatively new (started in 2021) and I cannot find any testimonials or reviews. Do you have anything to say about the university and the course?

    Thanks

    Regards

    Hallo Maria,

Was ich Ihnen empfehle?

    Sehr geehrter Herr Graf,

    • Welche Empfehlung wuerden Sie mir persoenlich geben? Middlesex oder Montpellier Business School?

Ich danke Ihnen sehr herzlich im Voraus!
